We are proud to announce that we have signed the contract with the ALSÉÉN joint venture (Ballast Nedam and Fluor) for the dismantling of the existing Merwede Bridge as part of the A27 Houten–Hooipolder Improvement Project.
Since Rijkswaterstaat awarded the project to ALSÉÉN in December 2022, we have worked closely together on the preparations for this major and complex part of the project. Together with our partners, we have carefully developed the execution plan, with the aim of ensuring a safe, efficient and future-proof operation while minimising disruption to the surrounding area.
Within the project, DDM will carry out all specialist activities required for the complete dismantling of the Merwede Bridge, including the removal of:
• the approach bridges, including the land piers
• the bascule chamber and movable bridge deck
• the two landmark arch spans
• the river piers
In addition, we will fabricate and install all temporary steel structures required for the operation to transport the Merwede Bridge sections by water.
