From Zeeland to Uruguay with 27 wind turbines

An energy company wanted to replace 27 wind turbines in Zeeland with even more efficient ones. DDM removed the old one and found a new destination: South America!

Speaking of efficient: DDM was able to sell the old wind turbines directly to a company in Uruguay. In preparation, various lifting equipment was custom-made, such as a beam for hoisting the gondola. DDM's work planners completed all the paperwork and planned further work.

The actual lifting was done with two crawler cranes. The advantage of this type of crane is that they can drive themselves to any required position. The rotor blades were fixed in a horizontal position, after which they were lowered with the nacelle in one lift. There the blades were dismantled, loaded onto wooden saddles on trailers and driven to the port. The gondolas went on low loaders. The towers consisted of two parts, which were also lifted with custom-made lifting equipment, loaded onto trailers and taken to the port.

All 27 wind turbines were dismantled and transported within three weeks. In Uruguay they are now working at full speed to generate clean electricity there too.
