Demolition of heavy loading bridge Hamburg

Recently, DDM has successfully completed the demolition of a 500 tonne loading bridge at a large steel manufacturing company. After detailed planning and preparation work, cutting and removing of all non-structural items, and finally the dismantling of the main structural items, the job was completed within two weeks.

The dismantling of the loading bridge required a lot of heavy lift equipment: five mobile cranes were used ranging from 70 – 800 tonnes (70, 400, 500, 750 and 800 tonnes), four aerial platforms, a 25t wheeled excavator with scrap shear, scrap handler with grab and a 70t tracked excavator with scrap shear.

Before the dismantling of the main structure of the loading bridge, the end sections of the loading bridge had to be carefully removed; this allowed the four large lifting cranes to lift the full loading bridge. Once the weight of the loading bridge was lifting, 5m sections of the support structure was cut and removed using a combination of cutting torch and mobile excavator. This process was repeated as the lifting cranes slowly lowered the main loading bridge to the ground

The loading bridge was cut and sized using the excavators with scrap shear. All scrap metal was cut to feed stock allowing it to be delivered direct to the blast furnace for recycling. All scrap was delivered using DDM’s inhouse scrap bulkers. This provided the client with additional peace of mind. All operatives were congratulated on their professional attitude towards the project and the goal of completing the project safely and efficiently
