At an active Shell site, DDM carried out a complex demolition project, with safety, continuity, and sustainability as key priorities. The works took place in an environment where installations remained operational, requiring a controlled and precise approach.
From the preparation phase onwards, strong emphasis was placed on risk control. All activities were thoroughly analysed and aligned with the client, with particular attention to the presence of hazardous materials, structural stability, and the impact on the surrounding environment. This careful engineering ensured that the project could be executed safely and predictably.
The execution followed a phased approach. First, the work area was set up and secured, followed by the decontamination and dismantling of installations. The structures were then demolished in a controlled manner using modern equipment. By consistently working in a fixed direction and maintaining a tight schedule, the process remained clear and risks were effectively managed.
A key focus was minimising impact on the surrounding environment. Noise and emissions were reduced through careful planning and the use of appropriate equipment, allowing works to proceed without disrupting nearby operations.
Sustainability played an important role, with materials separated on site and reused where possible. Concrete and steel were largely recycled, significantly reducing waste and environmental impact. In addition, an electric demolition excavator was used, further minimizing emissions and contributing to a more sustainable execution of the project.
Safety remained the foundation throughout the project. Strict procedures, well-prepared personnel, and continuous monitoring ensured full control and minimal incidents.

Removing 5 arch bridges over the Amsterdam Rhine Canal was an intensive job. The schedule was tight and the expectations of all employees were high. But with a joint effort and incredible passion, DDM has successfully removed and recycled the 5 bridges within schedule.
Every year DDM holds a number of safety days to boost safety awareness.
Last year's objectives are evaluated and new objectives are determined. All managers and all operational employees discuss safety, policy and vision together. In addition to all regular training courses, DDM offers workshops and training to all employees during these days to take the qualities of the professionals to an even higher level. Together with all DDM employees, we are working on an increasingly higher safety ethic. Everyone at DDM carries out their work in a safe and healthy manner, with sufficient attention to the environment. And they're getting better at it.
