Godorf, Germany Demolition Asbestos

Care is the key word

The removal of two steel cooling towers, equipped with asbestos plates, in Godorf, Germany, was precision work. Since they were built in 1959, they had been completely built in.

The nearest factory installation was less than 3 meters from the cooling towers. To ensure that this and the other factories would not experience any inconvenience from the work, and to be able to work safely and environmentally responsible, protective scaffolding was placed and nets hung. Water was also sprayed during all work to limit dust formation. Mobile cranes with sorting grabs removed the plastic and wooden interior from the cooling towers. The asbestos-containing plates were then removed piece by piece. These were attached to the inside of the steel structure and were released at a height and lowered using a tower crane equipped with a work platform.

There the records were packed in plastic and big bag bags and removed. The steel structure was cut into predetermined parts and lifted off with a crane, in a disassembly manner and sequence calculated in advance by the constructors. The concrete foundation was demolished using hydraulic cranes equipped with hammers. After completion of the dismantling and demolition work, the site was made suitable for the new construction that will take place there.
