DDM’s Sustainability Update!

At DDM, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact, and the results are impressive! We’re pleased to announce that in 2023, we reduced our CO2 emissions by a remarkable 100 tons compared to 2022. Want to know how we achieved this? Read on!

At DDM, we are actively working to reduce our ecological footprint, and the results are promising! We are proud to report that our CO2 emissions in 2023 have decreased by an impressive 100 tons compared to 2022. How did we achieve this? Read on to find out!

Recently, we’ve taken significant steps to make our operations more sustainable. Our new headquarters in De Meern is a shining example. The building is designed for energy-efficient cooling and heating and is entirely gas-free. Additionally, we have equipped our office in Terneuzen with solar panels, further contributing to a greener future.

We’ve also invested in new, environmentally friendly machinery, including electric models and equipment fitted with Stage 5 engines, which comply with the latest emission reduction standards.

But our efforts go beyond acquiring new equipment and machines. We’ve set ambitious goals for the coming years. By 2026, we aim to completely eliminate gas consumption at our De Meern office compared to 2021 levels. We’re also targeting a 10% reduction in emissions from our machinery, equipment, and vehicle fleet. Furthermore, we aim to have 10% of our vehicles fully electric.

Our colleagues in Germany and Belgium are also playing a vital role in this sustainable approach. In Germany, we are working towards a 10% reduction in emissions from machinery, equipment, and vehicles. In Belgium, we aim for a 10% reduction in emissions from our office, vehicle fleet, and machinery and equipment.

Would you like to learn more about the specific figures and how we generate energy with solar panels? And are you curious about the energy management action plan? Check out our ‘DDM Sustainability Report’ on our website under the ‘Sustainability’ section. Together, we are making strides towards a greener future, and we’re excited to showcase how far we’ve already come!

Objectives and Measures for All of DDM

Objective: Reduce CO₂ emissions from fuel consumption of the vehicle fleet by 10% (Scope 1)

  • Promote fuel-efficient driving: provide all drivers with a fuel-efficient driving toolbox.
  • Actively encourage carpooling among employees and demonstrate its implementation.
  • Purchase only tires with an A-rating for fuel efficiency according to the European tire label when acquiring new tires.
  • Provide bicycles at project sites and offices for short trips.

Objective: Reduce CO₂ emissions from fuel consumption of machinery by 10%, including the use of HVO100 on projects (Scope 1)

  • Replace machines with Stage 2 engines with Stage 4 or 5 engines by 2026 (compared to 2021).
  • Operate machinery on HVO100: Use HVO100 instead of diesel or gasoline on specific projects.
  • Develop a toolbox to optimize fuel-efficient machine operation.

Additional Measures for DDM Demontage

Objective: Reduce gas consumption at the main location in De Meern by 100% through investments such as battery storage (Scope 1)

  • Construct an energy-neutral office and purchase a battery storage system.
  • Encourage staff to minimize heating use and dress warmly.
  • Replace gas-powered installations with gas-free alternatives.

Objective: Increase the share of hybrid/electric vehicles to 50% (Scope 2)

  • Share the benefits of electric and hybrid vehicles with employees via DDM Info.
  • Install at least one charging station per ten parking spaces.

Objective: Reduce CO₂ emissions from electricity consumption in De Meern by 100% (Scope 2)

  • Procure 100% green electricity for the De Meern location.

Additional Measures for DDM Belgium NV

Objective: Reduce CO₂ emissions from gas consumption at the Kontich office by 10% (Scope 1)

  • Encourage staff to minimize heating use and dress warmly.

Objective: Reduce CO₂ emissions from electricity consumption at the Kontich office by 100%

  • Procure 100% green electricity for the Kontich location.
