Beek, Netherlands 40
Are you a hard worker, eager to learn and not afraid of anything? And do you like to be deployed everywhere? Then this vacancy is for you!
Burn cutting, dismantling, and lifting. What your day looks like depends on the project you are assigned to and your specific skills. Your main task is the demolition of (petro)chemical installations and large steel structures such as bridges. You have technical insight and know how to operate a cutting torch safely and in a controlled manner. You carry out your assigned tasks efficiently. You take good care of your equipment and tools and strictly follow general and project-specific rules and safety regulations.
You ensure that your work is carried out safely, at all times and in every situation. If you identify a potentially dangerous situation, you report it immediately to your supervisor.
“Demolition is a fascinating world. I basically do whatever is needed. Lately, the focus has been more on asbestos. I’ve completed the training for Certified Asbestos Remover (DAV) and Certified Asbestos Supervisor (DTA). So my range of tasks is very broad. And anything I want to learn, I can learn. DDM fully supports that.
I regularly work abroad, but never for more than a few weeks at a time. I really enjoy getting away from everyday life in the Netherlands for a while. Even when I’m not working abroad, I’m usually only home on weekends. The petrochemical industry simply isn’t located around the corner.
What attracts me to this work? You truly see the results of what you do. One moment there’s a factory, the next there’s an empty site. It’s also highly responsible work—we can’t afford mistakes. The atmosphere among colleagues is great too. Everyone enjoys a joke, but when we’re working, we’re completely serious. I like that. During the week, we often stay together in a holiday home. I wake up next to colleagues more often than next to my own partner. It’s a way of life that has to suit you.”

“One of my favorite projects is the cleaning of flexicokers. This project comes back every 2.5 years, including in Greece and Rotterdam. A flexicoker processes crude oil. Over time, residue builds up and eventually the whole system gets clogged because the layer becomes too thick. We remove that buildup within two to three weeks, working in shifts. We operate 24 hours a day, in shifts of about two hours. It’s really intense work. A battle between people and pneumatic hammers against oil residues, but with an incredible team spirit. I get a lot of satisfaction from that.”
