In preparation, the adjacent coolers were removed with demolition excavators. And the four arms, pipework of approximately Ø2.2m and a weight of 43 tons each, were also removed during the preparation. The heads of the columns were then cut loose and lifted down. The packages placed in the column were placed in bins and these were then emptied downstairs.
Rings were cut from the casing of the column using cutting flames. These rings were lifted off and mechanically scrapped downstairs. The columns were completely dismantled in parts by alternately removing packages and hoisting off the rings.
3,368.7 tons of metals were removed and recycled. The preparatory work was carried out with an average of 5 specialists, a 700T and a 250T hydraulic crane. The column was further completed with a 180T crawler crane and aerial work platforms.
After thorough preparation, the two 'landmarks' for the Zeeland landscape were checked, removed and recycled without incident and within the set schedule.
