Dismantling 11G/12G trams GVB

Dismantling 11G/12G trams GVB

The Amsterdam city transport GVB has said goodbye to the 11G/12G trams after 32 years. GVB is preparing to purchase the 15G series trams, which will be used from 2021 to replace the old 11G/12G vehicles.

DDM has been asked to charge the old stream of 11G/12G trams in combination with van der Vlist and transport them in their entirety to DDM's specially equipped location in De Meern, and ultimately dismantle and recycle them independently.

DDM started dismantling the trams on July 5, 2021. The total weight of a decommissioned tram is considerable and is therefore not an everyday job... A team of disassembly specialists have prepared our work area to receive the trams. Special facilities have been installed to enable the trams to be unloaded from the low loader without the use of hoisting and lifting equipment. Before the demolition of the trams could begin, the foreman checked whether there was any damage or defects on the trams that could pose a danger to people and the environment. Working safely is always a top priority at DDM.

DDM has done everything it can to dismantle the 11G/12G vehicles within the set frameworks. The trams were mechanically demolished by DDM using a demolition crane equipped with a scissor, demolition and sorting grab. In addition, several parts have been manually dismantled by our disassembly specialists. The various waste flows from the trams are processed separately. In this way, the project was completed without any disasters in a sustainable manner.

The GVB is very satisfied with DDM as a cooperation partner. The project was completed without incident and within the specified time. DDM can look back with pride on another successful project.
