"ONLY THE STRUCTURE AND THE EXTERNAL CLADDING OF THE HALL HAD TO REMAIN INTACT"

Complete clearing out of a gristmill factory hall

DEMOLITION Projects | Clearing out of factory hall

Gristmills were once produced there. But the firm went bust and DDM got the contract to clear out the hall completely. That meant dismantling, breaking up and disposing of gristmills, machinery, electric motors and a large press. Only the structure and the external cladding of the hall had to remain intact.

The four-metre-long gristmills - with a diameter of 60 to 70 centimetre - had to be cut up into sections weighing a maximum of one tonne each, using cutting torches. We used the caterpillar crane to lift these into containers, so that we could dispose of them in a controlled and safe manner. We removed all the other materials from the hall in the same way too.

There was also an overhead crane in the hall. We had that tested and approved so that we could then use it for lifting and removing the demolition waste. Handy and efficient!

Since the gristmill factory was in bankruptcy, there were no external safety checks. Therefore, we made all our own arrangements and performed our own risk management. And with great success: no incidents and entirely safe working. The project took eight months to complete.
