"HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY DISMANTLE TWO PLANTS WITHIN THE PLANNED SCHEDULE."

Demolition and dismantling of PVC and VCM plant

DEMOLITION Projects | PVC and VCM plant

DISMANTLING Projects | PVC and VCM plant

DDM was asked by a large international dealership in chemical plants and plant items to perform dismantling work at a chemical plant in Malaysia. A broker bought the old VCM and the old PVC plant from the client.

A small section was to be dismantled and subsequently packed and loaded for shipping to a new user. The remaining installations were to be properly demolished by DDM.

Using large breaker/excavators fitted with hydraulic cutters, the installations and heavy steel constructions were cut up, reduced in size and loaded into containers. After careful preparation, the tall distillation columns were weakened and cut down using controlled methods.

In the preparations, account was taken of wind forces and directions. Also, the ground vibrations to be expected on collapse were calculated. Stone-type buildings were demolished and the concrete floors and foundations were removed and disposed of using low-noise and low-vibration methods. 5,553.9 tonnes of concrete were broken up and taken away.

A very tightly-knit and professional team from The Netherlands, together with local personnel, successfully dismantled and scrapped two complete plants within the planned schedule. The removed materials found their way to blast furnaces and other processing facilities to be recycled into new construction materials.
