Demolition and dismantling of PVC and VCM plant

Kerteh, Malaysia Demolition Dismantling

Demolition and dismantling of PVC and VCM plant

DDM has been asked to carry out dismantling work at a chemical factory in Malaysia for a large international trader in chemical factories and factory parts.

An intermediary bought the old VCM factory and the old PVC factory from the customer. A small part had to be dismantled, then packed and transported to a new user. The other installations were professionally demolished by DDM.

Using large demolition excavators equipped with hydraulic scrap shears, the installations and heavy steel structures were cut, reduced in size and loaded into containers. The tall distillation columns were weakened and cut in a controlled manner after careful preparation.

The preparations took wind force and direction into account. The expected ground vibration upon landing was also calculated, stony buildings were demolished and the concrete floors and foundations were removed and disposed of with low noise and vibration. 5,553.9 tons of concrete were broken and removed.

A very close-knit and skilled team from the Netherlands, together with local employees, succeeded in completely dismantling and demolishing two factories within schedule. The resulting materials have found their way to the blast furnaces and other processors for a new life as a building material.
